Barun Sobti on sets of MAIN AUR MR.RIIGHT

TV’s best on-screen Jodi’s of 2012: Sanaya Irani-Barun Sobti

Sanaya-Barun's pair will definitely go into the books of history for their remarkable popularity. Their sizzling chemistry was the driving force behind the show's attractiveness and made the show reach new heights. Their on-screen chemistry and screen presence made the fans go crazy. Though their characters were poles apart in cultural background and persona, but Khushi and ASR belonged to each other. In fact the real reason behind the shows successful run was Sanaya and Barun's hit pair. Unfortunately, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon recently bid adieu to its fans when Barun decided to quit the show to pursue career in films as even the makers of the show were very well versed with the popularity of Sanaya-Barun's Jodi.

Arnav-Anjali’s relationship has always been a treat to watch and it wasn’t surprising when the duo won the poll with a fancy 979 Votes…Its Madhubala-Trishna from Colors show Madhubala:Ek Ishq Ek Junoon who came second with 600 Votes.

What was quite surprising is the most popular sibling Jodi, Maanvi and Jeevika who are part of Ek Hazaron Mein Meri Behna Hai a show that highlights the bond between two sisters was no where near in this race.

Barun Sobti goes to Bollywood

The latest actor to bid adieu to television is Barun Sobti aka Arnav Singh Raizada of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon. Sources associated with the show say, "Barun recently completed a movie. He now harbours the desire to try his luck in movies and is quitting television. The channel apparently received 20,000 emails a day, requesting that he be convinced to stay back. But Barun decided to move on."

However, Barun refutes all that is being said about him, "I had put in my papers in February itself but the makers asked me to stay on for a while. I have quit because I want to spend some quality time with my family. I am in talks for a few Bollywood projects but it's at a very nascent stage.

Star’s real life drama - Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon fans launch worldwide campaign

Fans in uproar over soap actor’s shock departure

By Imran Choudhury

IT has all the ingredients of a Bollywood love story - a handsome hero, swooning female fans and a villain threatening to get rid of the leading man, of course.

Except this is a real-life drama. About a Hindi soap. And it's getting messier by the day.

Female viewers of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon (What Can I Call This Love?), the UK’s most popular Hindi soap, have launched an international campaign against broadcaster Star Plus for allegedly “forcing out” one of the main lead actors.

Indian actor Barun Sobti, 28, who plays "bad boy" Arnav Singh Raizada in the show has become a heartthrob for many women around the world. But when he announced last month that he intended to leave the show to pursue a career in Bollywood, his female fans were livid.

They are not content with sending letters of complaint to the broadcaster, but have turned to ringing the offices of Star Plus in India at least a "1,000 times daily" in an attempt to to get the channel to bring him back.

"This is not typical show - It's an epic love story," Saijel Shah, an accountant from west London, told Eastern Eye.

"I've gone days without food and sleep because I'm so busy with work and campaigning for Barun to come back.

"They should end the show with him or bring him back for a second season."

Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, which aired its first episode last June, is a romantic drama featuring Sanaya Irani as a young and chirpy Khushi Kumari Gupta and Sobti as arrogant business tycoon Arnav who feels nothing but hate for her character. But as the drama unfolds, sparks begin to fly between the lead pair.

According to the Broadcasters' Audience Research Board (BARB), the show is currently the most watched Hindi drama in the UK and drew 226,200 viewers last month.

Sobti confirmed his decision to leave, saying: "Everyone wants to explore new avenues and I plan to work on a few movie projects now. In future I might comeback to TV someday. I would like to request my fans to continue loving me the same way.”

Female fans, however, are in no mood for love, it appears. There was an additional twist in the real-life drama when some reports in the Indian media speculated that Sobti would be replaced by another character.

Londoner Shah, 35, has been organising a worldwide campaign on social networks and online forums for the past three weeks in order to keep the actor in the show.

She organised a protest, to be held at the Star Parivaar Live show in Birmingham last month (24), but had to ditch it at the last minute after many fans failed to turn up. Shah was also threatened with police action by the venue's manager if the protest went ahead.

"We were disappointed that no one else turned up. We were also told by the organisers there not to make any trouble otherwise they would call the police. We didn’t want to make Barun sad so we decided to leave the protest out," she said.

Since Shah heard the news of Sobti's exit, she has been calling the Star Plus India offices 20 times daily.

"We are thinking of increasing the calls to 1,500 call a day. I get up at 5am in the morning and I start calling around 10 times before I go to work. I usually don't do this. This is not a normal thing for me."

Shah believes he is being forced out by the makers of the show, although the channel has denied this.

Another fan, who has asked for her name not to be revealed, but who goes by the internet ID of Juicee_Sushie on India Forums website and Twitter, told EE: “I never watched any Indian drama prior to this one. When I watched the first episode after my cousin persuaded me to, I was hooked onto it."

The 40-year-old added: “I nearly burst into tears when I heard Sobti was going to leave.. I’ve spoken to hundreds of people in South Africa, Oman, Dubai, India, and in Canada every day.

“It’s similar to when the boy band Take That split up, there were help lines for fans who were distraught, and speaking to fans, it is on that level."

Raj Baddhan, co-founder of BizAsia.co.uk and station manager, Sabras Radio, told EE there were "several rumours" about why Sobti was leaving the show.

"That’s exactly what they are. I have spoken to Barun numerous times and he has confirmed it is due to health reasons as filming schedule can be gruelling.

"Of course, there are angry fans who are upset to see their favourite character leave the show - but it's the actor’s own decision. He wants to spend time with his family and pursue other projects including Bollywood.

"Actors come and go, and I remember the same happened when actors left previous shows on the channel. Star Plus remains India and UK’s number one Asian TV channel. The brand Star Plus is bigger than any character and actor."

Rajan Singh, CEO of Star Europe and USA told EE: “When an actor who is instrumental in a particular soap decides he doesn’t want to be in the soap anymore, then it kind of puts us in a very difficult position.

"We have to then work on a storyline which will close the episode, and that’s what we’re going to be doing.

“There's a lot of talk in the past about replacing him, but we were never going to doing that. You can’t replace the chemistry between two people which have made the soap so great."

New drama Kali, which replaced IPKKND's slot, started last Monday (3).

HE LOVED HER LIKE THERE WAS NO TOMORROW

Question... Everybody knew that Arnav Singh Raizada was going to Die (Had IPKKND Continued) does anybody know which Famous Movie track/idea was being used for this sequence? Not that it matter's now....but any guesses ???

Here is the answer to the question:

An adaptation NOT copying of the Hit Romantic Hollywood movie "IF ONLY" was what was planned by the Team of IPKKND (Barun, Sanaya, Lalit Sir) for its viewers.

The tagline of "If Only" reads..."HE LOVED HER LIKE THERE WAS NO TOMORROW"

Barun Sobti is such a positive friendly and calm human being, says Producer of Main aur Mr Riight

"Barun is such a positive friendly and calm human being. Its unfortunate a few of his fans exude just the opposite of those qualities. I read the kind of things they write on the madmidaas films page and it disheartens me to see the negativity their hearts are filled with for the makers who gave Barun his break into films. We try and keep them contacted to their favorite star- They should appreciate that. And ofcorse we will use him to promote our film- He is the main lead after all. Which film dosent use their Hero to market the film? Any fan that spreads negativity on our page will be blocked on the spot. A movie is made with alot of sweat and blood by the entire crew and it hurts every one associated with the movie to read such things. It will not be tolerated hence forth."

TV shows that have created hysteria in 2012

Barun Sobti and Sanaya Irani's chemistry on the show is what made Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon popular! Although the storyline did not have much meat, it was Sanaya and Barun's onscreen pairing that had fans going crazy about the two. So much so that when the makers deiced to abruptly end the show on 30th November 2012, they were bombarded by fans to bring the show back by popular demand. Although Sanaya Irani was reportedly unhappy with the abrupt ending, co-star Barun Sobti decided to quit the show to pursue his Bollywood dream. Sanaya and Barun have won the Best Jodi award at several award functions including the People's Choice Awards India, going on to prove that actors can be bigger than their shows.

Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon ends with Arnav, Khushi’s love journey

It was quite a hard time to bid adieu to such a beautiful drama Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon (IPKKND) that entertained all the television viewers and fans for almost one and half year with Arnav (Barun Sobti) and Khushi’s (Sanaya Irani) unusual love journey.

Though, Iss Pyaar Ko made an abrupt ending on 30th November but its ending did not disappoint its fans and audiences.

The last episode showed that Khushi was being crowned as Mrs. India. Finally, Khushi succeeded making an identity of her own and fulfilling the desires of her husband Arnav.

Arnav aka Barun Sobti was not present for the last day of shooting. So, Arnav’s presence was seen only in the background.

The show ended with both Arnav and Khushi’s presence not disappointing all the viewers. Khushi thanked Arnav for spreading happiness in her life and tells him that he is a very important part in her life.

Arnav and Khushi recalled their first meeting, love moments, sweet-bitter fights, romantic Rabba Ve moments and their marriage memories.

Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon ended with a memorable marriage moment of Arnav and Khushi where Arnav lifted Khushi in his arms.

The journey of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon was very interesting as it traveled with many ups and downs. IPKKND started with hatred feelings between Arnav and Khushi and gradually it changed into unconditional love.

This epic love story will divinely live in the hearts of the fans forever.

I am in a position where I can choose roles that I want to do: Sanaya Irani

With Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon (Star Plus) going off-air, the very beautiful, bubblicious and gracious Sanaya Irani has finally some free time on hand.

Finding an opportunity, we caught up with this gorgeous lady to know about her future plans, news on her tantrums and of course, boyfriend Mohit Sehgal.

When asked if she has made holiday plans, she replied, “I don’t plan much. I take each day as it comes. But yes, now I will have more time for my family and friends.” Though, this actress has more time on hand now, she wasn’t expecting this break. It was with her co-star Barun Sobti’s exit from the show, that everything came to a halt. Hence, when asked if she holds him responsible for whatever happened, she shot back, “There is nothing that I must say as Barun left the show for his personal reasons. And it’s not like the serial wouldn’t have run without him but it shut down.”

Moving on, when we asked her about how she takes the tag of a tantrum queen, Sanaya averred, “I was given this tag by someone from the media, because I did not give interviews during my shoot hours. Anyways, I couldn’t have avoided my production house that paid me to work. Therefore, it would have been foolish of me to have taken calls during shooting hours. But, trust me if anybody from my production ever tells you that I threw tantrum I will change my name and never act again.”

Her boyfriend Mohit is currently a part of Star Plus’ Khamoshiyaan. Hence, when asked Sanaya if she has been able to watch the show, she said, “Since I am Mohit-biased, I liked him in the very first episode. And as there isn’t much of him in the story right now I haven’t been watching the show. But, the first episode was very interesting. In all, the serial has a gripping storyline and the audience will like it.”

We tell her that the lead of Khamoshiyaan looks up to her when it comes to acting, giving the example of Mrunal Thakur, what she had said in one of her interviews, Sanaya laughed out and answered, “I have met her couple of times and as far as I know, somebody had asked her to watch my show. That’s how she started keeping a track of it and that was very sweet of her. She is a newcomer, but has a lot of potential.”

When asked if she has been offered shows, the actress happily observed, “I am being offered a lot of shows and it feels good to be in place where you get to select what you want to do. I think every actor wants to be in this place someday. Reaching here wasn’t easy though as there were times when I was out of work. Yes, I haven’t taken up anything yet.”

Finally she informed us that she has been receiving messages from her fans. These messages talk about them supporting her, but Sanaya does not know what they are supporting her for, as she said, “I think there is some misunderstanding that has been going around as everybody wants to support me. But, still I’d like to thank all my fans for loving me so much.”

Have a great life ahead, Sanaya!!!

Indian television discovers the crazy power of fandom

Recently, Star Plus ran a curious message onscreen during the telecast of primetime show, Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon (IPKKND). It said that IPKKND's lead actor Barun Sobti had decided to leave the show for movies, that the channel had tried to convince him to change his mind but failed, so they
had no option but to end the serial. This was a strange message to telecast for two reasons: one, actors leave TV shows all the time, and they are either killed off onscreen or simply replaced by other actors. For example, Gia Manek, the actress who played the docile bahu in Star Plus's Saathiya, was replaced the instant she decided to participate in a rival channel's dance show (Jhalak Dikhla Ja). So what was the big deal about Barun leaving? Two, the onscreen message was clearly the Star Plus version - but was it the truthful version? Frankly, I thought it was unfair as it seemed to be passing the blame on to the actor. In any case, I don't remember any channel putting out this kind of message in the past - ever.

So what happened? Well, TV fandom happened, that's what. This is a phenomenon that our television industry is only just beginning to encounter, though it's been around in the West for years (internationally, TV awards are given not just to the best actor, best actress etc but also to the best fandom).

A television show's fandom - the real thing - is usually global and not restricted to the country where the TV show in question originated. It finds its voice on the Internet - through passionately maintained blogs, imaginative fan fiction, on dedicated fansites etc. It can be obsessive. The fans always know more about the characters, story and show trivia than even the producers, directors or actors. Fandoms often form around cult shows, not necessarily the highest-rated shows. They are highly polarized (fans attach themselves to individual characters who they proceed to love to death) and hard to please. But they're also fanatically loyal.

IPKKND was never the No. 1 show on Star Plus, though it was usually in the top ten. But it became one of the few Indian shows to acquire a vociferous, committed global fandom which created such uproar at the idea of seeing anyone else but Barun Sobti in the lead role, that neither the channel nor the production house had the guts to replace him.

When IPKKND began a year-and-a-half ago as a sizzling Mills and Boon-type love story, it attracted fans from all over the world. Even when the show began deteriorating, the fans remained onboard. Perhaps they were happy to just see their beloved lead pair on screen, even if they grumbled (rightly) that the storyline had turned to dust.

Few shows are lucky enough to attract a dedicated fandom. Entertainment channels houses here should take a leaf out of what happens abroad. They should learn to harvest the loyalty of fandoms to keep their shows robust and long-lasting. Never ignore the fans, no matter how crazy they seem. They're the life breath of any show. And you can't get them, not with money, not with marketing. They come to you.

LAST DAY OF IPKKND SHOOT

What lies ahead

Barun Sobti answers pertinent questions on the last day of the shoot of his hit show

Barun Sobti became a household name due to his successful show Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, which has been on air for more than a year. He wooed the audience playing the arrogant, rich tycoon Arnav Singh Raizada to perfection. Also, his chemistry with co-star Sanaya Irani was loved by viewers. On the last day of his shoot, Barun looks back on his decision to quit the show, and talks about plans for the future.

How are you feeling while shooting on your last day ?
I am looking forward as well as looking back at the time gone by. All is good and there's nothing to complain about.

Are there any mixed feelings now that you have quit the show?
I am numb. The good thing is that I am shooting my scenes alone, without any of my co-stars, or else it would have been weird. I have had a good time being part of the show and cherish every moment. I will be carrying a lot of memories back with me.

When the channel was persuading you to stay back, did you have any second thoughts?
Not really. Once I took the decision, I stuck to it. Today is my last day of shoot. Later the team will go to Birmingham (UK) for a channel event.

Are you aware of the mass hysteria your exit has caused?  Fans have been writing letters to the channel and making phone calls asking you to stay back. They have also insinuated that since you are quitting due to problems with producer Gul Khan, the channel should replace the production house.?
Well, I have got numerous fan mails asking me about the update on the show. But let me clarify that there is no problem between Gul Khan and me. In fact, she has been a great producer and a great support too. This is the biggest show of my career and I am grateful for the opportunity it has given me. As for my fans, I thank them for all their love and support and hope they continue to show this love in my future endeavours.

What plans for the future?
As of now, my film Main Aur Mr Right, which should release soon. I am also looking forward to a break and spending time with family.

Niaa Sharma upset with Iss Pyaar Ko's abrupt ending

Cute and bubblicious Niaa Sharma, who is essaying Maanvi’s role in Star Plus’Ek Hazaaron Mein Meri Behna Hai (Cinevistaas), is unhappy that Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon is ending abruptly.

Amongst many others, she has also been ardent fan of the show.

“How can a show like Iss Pyaar Ko… go off-air? The soap was doing very good. It always managed to gain good TRPs. I feel sad that the cast and crew was told by the channel about the project shutting down only five days back and they had to come up with an abrupt closing,” shared Niaa.

She went on to state, “Well… my good wishes to Sanaya (Irani) for she beautifully portrayed the role of Khushi.”

Niaa…we all shall miss the show!!!

Barun redefines TV stardom

It's got to be a first. Television heartthrob Barun Sobti (who had earlier done two immensely forgettable shows as lead and a cameo appearance before he struck gold with his current soapy outing) might have underestimated his importance when he put down his papers to chase Bollywood dreams, but his fans have collectively ensured that they are not going to tolerate any replacement/new track in his absence.

Amid speculations about the nature of his 'longish' break and reports of his death scene in his signature show, Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? which was supposed to go on air this week that sent his fanbase into a frantic frenzy of bombarding Star Plus with phone calls/smses and emails asking him either to be retained or end the show, the broadcaster finally pulled the plug on the 18 month old show that is now expected to wrap up on its 398 thepisode to be telecast on November 30. Thanks to the volatile reactions from the audience, a significant chunk of whom are based overseas and subscribe to the channel at a high premium, for the first time a leading Hindi general entertainment channel had to issue statements citing the reasons for the abrupt end of the show and even ran a disclaimer ticker during the showtime explaining the same.

It's not the first time that a lead actor has quit a show for greener pastures or creative differences, with the production house. Amar Upadhay (Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi), Rajeev Khandelwal (Kahin Toh Hoga) , Karan Singh Grover (Dill Mill Gayye), Cezanne Khan (Kasauti Zindagi Kay), Iqbal Khan (Karam Apna Apna), Sara Khan (Sapna Babul Ka... Bidaai), Rati Pandey (Miley Jab Hum Tum), ( Mishal Raheja (Lagi Tujhse Lagan) and Sushant Singh Rajput (Pavitra Rishta) have done the same in the past, leading the producers to find new leads/introduce new tracks.

The legion of quitting stars now includes: Shivaji Satam who's quit CID, a show with which he was synonymous for 15 long years, Ankita Lokhande has quit Pavitra Rishta, but the show goes on with a time leap, Harhad Chopra and Sriti Jha, the leads of Dil Se Di Dua...Saubhagyavati Bhavo? departed from the show, making room for new characters, Pawan Shankar the lead of Kya Hua Tera Vada has also reportedly expressed his desire to quit his show, post a time leap. The two female leads of Dil Dosti Dance, Sneha Kapoor and Mukti Mohan left their show and the production house has since introduced new characters/story lines.

TV stars quitting their shows is not exactly a new occurance in the world of Hindi general entertainment channels and audiences have either switched channels or got used to the replacements/new tracks over a period of time. In some instances, the lead's departure has led to the show's dipping TRPs and dwindling viewership and eventual closure. But the deluge of fan mail/phone calls made the channel realize that it would be pointless to run a show that banked heavily on the starry charisma of Barun Sobti and his scorching screen chemistry with Sanaya Irani which might not be easily replicated. The collective power of fans has for the first time resulted in a show's abrupt end, because the male lead who is currently "holidaying in the UK" is unavailable for the last day of shoots. In fact, for the first time in years, a TV actor's meteoric rise to stardom has made a channel rethink its programming (the replacement show, Kali reportedly wasn't originally slotted for the 8 pm band and it was Sanjay Leela Bhansali's show which was expected to replace IPKKND) and make changes to accommodate fans' demands, keeping in mind that the consumer is king and needs to be kept happy.

A savvies star would automatically make the most of his successful connect to his audience and leverage his career to an advantageous slot (his fans are already demanding for a second season of IPKKND with a new production, a new show with Sanaya as a costar and even asking the channel to let him host Nach Baliye 5!) . One doesn't know whether he'll have a hugely successful career in films or not (given the track record of his small screen predecessors who've made that move, seems unlikely), but Barun might now seriously think of cutting that 'longish break' short, and make the most of his stardom, by signing up some show. In the ruthless world of showbiz, even the biggest stars fade into nothingness when they are away from public memory. And the list of TV superstars of yesterday waiting for their next big role is a pretty massive one!

Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon cast bids adieu to its fans via Tellychakkar.com

Star Plus’ Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon will bid adieu to all its viewers tonight (30 November 2012).

So, we decided to chat with a few actors of this show to know their take on it…and their journey.

Said Sanaya Irani aka Khushi, “Everyone is feeling sad about it. This was the best team and I will miss it for quite some time.”

Averred Abhaas Mehta aka Shyam, “It was a very shocking decision. We all knew Barun (Sobti) was moving out but then Viraf (Patel) was roped in and the makers had a storyline in place. However, my journey in the show was great, but all good things have to come to an end.”

Karan Goddwani aka NK who was roped in for just a month and went on to become a popular character in the show is upset with this sudden decision. But, at the same time he is also thankful to the producers as he observed, “It was an exciting journey because of the wonderful audience that accepted me. I found a family in this show, people I’d always be with. It was really hard to say goodbye to everybody on the last day of our shoot. Will miss it all.”

Akshay Dogra had quit the show as he was unhappy with his character’s development. But he does not deny the fact that his role of Akash Raizada was a turning point for him. “All-in-all, it was a fulfilling experience. I have made relationships with some wonderful people who are available for me even as early as 4 am on any given day. Yes, I wasn’t happy with my character’s growth but I do not regret taking up the project,” he maintained.

Utkarsha Naik aka Manorama Mami lastly stated, “It was an awesome journey with a team that was closely knit. It was the positivity of the people on this show that made it such a big success.”

Barun Sobti remained unavailable as he is currently not in the country.

We wish the team all the success in their future endeavors!!!

IPKKND on Eastern Eye!

IT has all the ingredients of a Bollywood love story – a handsome hero, swooning female fans and a villain threatening to get rid of the leading man, of course.

Viewers of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon (What Can I Call This Love?), the UK’s most popular Hindi soap, have launched an international campaign against broadcaster Star Plus for allegedly “forcing out” one of the main lead actors.

Read the whole story in this week's Eastern Eye, out Friday!

Barun’s exit the reason behind show's end?

The cast of television show 'Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?' were in for a shock on Monday when they were informed that the show will go off air on November 30. They were not given any reason for this abrupt end. It had been speculated though that Barun Sobti's ( Arnav Singh Raizada) exit from the show would negatively affect the TRPs.

So, was the decision to end the show taken due to Barun's exit? Producer Rajesh Chadha says, "Absolutely. There's no other reason. Barun and Sanaya were the pillars of the show. There was no threat till Barun was a part of it. But when he requested to quit the show to pursue a career in films, we had to work around a new track. But we got a call saying that the channel had decided to end the show. They have their own reasoning and strategy and we respect that. After all, it was a love story and it would be incomplete without Barun's character."

Viraf Phiroz, who was supposed to be a new entrant, says he was very disheartened to hear that the show is going to end. "The channel was planning to reinvent the show and the makers wanted to prevent the TRPs from dipping by roping in a new character (that of Viraf's). But yes, Barun's character was quite a hit among fans and I am sure his exit must have disappointed them," says Viraf. "I had been shooting for the show for the last one and a half months, and my entry was slotted for Monday after Barun's character would die on Friday. This news came as a shock to me, but the channel knows what it's doing," Viraf adds.

Sanaya Irani, who plays Khushi in the serial, remained unavailable for comment. Describing her as a lovely co-star, Viraf says, "My heart goes out to Sanaya. I feel bad about the other stars on the set who were associated with the show." Barun, who is out of the country, sounded surprised at this sudden news. "I have no clue as I am done with shooting my part. I am out of the country and don't know anything about it," he says.

Overnights: ‘IPKKND’ lead on Star Plus UK

‘Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon’ remained the most watched Hindi drama serial last night (26th November) on Star Plus UK, according to data obtained exclusively by BizAsia.

The popular romantic series, which comes to an end this week, had the biggest audience amongst all shows on Star Plus UK. It had an audience of 208,800 between 20:00 and 20:30 – peaking at 226,200. It was confirmed on BizAsia yesterday that ‘Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon’ will end after its lead star Barun Sobti announced his plans to leave the show.

Star Parivaar Live 2012 LG Arena Birmingham - Arnav does Gangnam Style

Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon to end two short of the 400 mark with Khushi being crowned as Mrs India

Star Plus’ very popular show Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, produced by IMRC Entertainment and 4 Lions Films wraps up this Friday (30 November 2012). And this sudden decision comes after the channel weighed the pros and cons regarding the show’s future post Barun Sobti quitting the show. And a mutual decision was taken to rather end the serial with Arnav and Khushi (Sanaya Irani) enjoying the limelight after Khushi getting crowned as Mrs. India.

Well, this is the ending that has been initiated now!! But spare a thought for the major drama that the unit shot with Barun, in order to bring to an end the character of Arnav before they introduced the new lead of the show, Viraf Phiroz Patel… The creative team had shot an extensive accident sequence with Barun and had decided to give an abrupt end to Arnav post the accident.

But we hear that the accident sequence will not find a place in the track now. Instead, the story will end on a happy note with Khushi winning the contest and Arnav seen in the background. Also, we hear that the team of Iss Pyaar plan to shoot a song sequence with their main characters to give a fitting end to the popular show that found a place in every viewer’s heart.
However, the makers have a major problem here as Barun Sobti is not in India to shoot a finale scene with them. For the uninitiated, Barun is off to UK to spend some quality time with his wife.

Another interesting aspect is that Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon will wind up at a point where it is just two short of the landmark achievement of completing 400 episodes. With Star Plus airing the special event, Nayi Soch Ki Talash Aamir Khan Ke Saath this Thursday (29 November) between 8-9 pm, it only means that Iss Pyaar will not be aired on that day. And Friday (30 November) will be the last episode (at 398).

So how has the whole journey been? Talking about the journey of making a cult show like Iss Pyaar, producer Rajesh Chadha states to Tellychakkar.com, “It was a great journey, a great team effort with so much passion and positivity in each team member. Star Plus really stood by us through all the ups and downs and it was great working with the channel. At this point, I remember only the highs as we are parting on a high note, with a sense of great achievement of creating a cult show.”

On Sanaya Irani, Rajesh Chadha says, “Sanaya has been the most lovable and true professional during the show. Khushi will remain in our hearts for a long time. She did comedy, drama, emotion and above all the romantic scenes so very well; it only proves how good an actor she is.”

On Barun, Chadha avers, “Barun from day one has been very much Arnav kind, a man of few words. He is strong headed about his goals in life. I saw him as a very emotional guy from within who never wanted to get trapped into worldly stuff. A thorough professional, always stayed away from issues. He in his own sweet ways created a lively environment on the sets with other co-actors.”

In one simple statement, all we can say is that ‘RIP IPK’….We really enjoyed writing about the show, as much as the loyal fans loved seeing it and reading about it.

Confirmed: ‘IPKKND’ to end on Star Plus this week

One of Star Plus’ most loved shows ‘Iss Pyar Ko Kya Naam Doon’ will be coming to an end this week, BizAsia can confirm.

According to reliable sources, the romantic show based around the characters of Arnav and Khushi, will end this Friday (30th November).

The news will no doubt come as a huge surprise to fans who have been disheartened to hear about lead actor Barun Sobti announcing his plans to leave the show due to personal reasons. The channel and production house maintained the show was to carry on after Sobti’s exit. However all parties have realised that the show will not be able to sustain viewership without Arnav’s character due to his immense following.

Incidently, actors Sobti and Sanaya Irani who appeared at the Star Parivaar Live show at the weekend declined to comment on the show’s future at the time.

Some final scenes have already been filmed, with others expected tomorrow.

The show will end this week, with new drama ‘Kali’ starting on Monday 3rd December at 20:00.

Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? is coming to an end this Friday

After a highly successful journey, Star Plus’ Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? is coming to an end this Friday.

All good things come to an end and that also includes Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?. Our source informed us that the producers had decided to pull the plug on the show. We called the writer of the show Ved Raj who confirmed the news. He said despondently, "It was a great and challenging experience writing the show. I'm feeling empty and sad. The show is just ending abruptly."

It is tough for viewers to accept a replacement for Barun Sobti. Maybe that is why the producers and channel decided to take the show off air. This show had a successful run for almost a year and a half and is highly popular on india-forums.com too. Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? currently rates number one on the forum. Barun Sobti and Sanaya Irani rank one and two respectively on our website in popularity among TV actors. We tried calling both Barun and Sanaya Irani but their mobiles were switched off.

IPKKND is abrupt ending on 30th November?

Shocking! Shocking! Shocking! Here comes an exclusive piece of news for all the Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon fans. Off late TOI.com speculated about the show going off air sometime soon and Sanjay Leela Bhansali's debut project taking the slot.

But here's some sad news as the show starring popular jodi Sanaya Irani and Barun Sobti will end on 30th of November and will have a compulsive end. Sources informs that the makers (4 Lions Films) informed the entire cast about their decision today itself leaving them high and dry!

Accordingly, the shooting will stop in the next 2-3 days and the last episode will be aired on 30th of November, 2012.

Talking about the track, sources informs, there is no time left in hand to plan a proper ending but yes! It will be a logical ending, where Arnav's character will come to an end.

When contacted, Jayshree T stated, "I just received a call from the production team saying that the show is going off air. I don't know much as I will be shooting tomorrow.

Utakarsha Naik too confirmed, "The channel decided to pull the show off air abruptly."

Now, the audiences must be wondering about the new entry which was scheduled this week. Here is the clarification for the same. Actor Viraf Patel was finalized to essay the lead post Barun's exit from the show but the latest we hear is that the entry has been cancelled.

Confirming the same,Viraf says "Yes, I just got a call from my principals and they informed me that they have decided to pull the plug on the show. The show will go off-air on Friday and the reason behind this decision is best known to the makers of the show."
All our efforts to reach Gul Khan were futile.

Star Plus' press release puts the final nail in the coffin; Barun Sobti all set to become history in Iss Pyaar Ko...

Whatever trickle of doubt or non-clarity sniffed the air has now vanished. Here we are mentioning about the great hullabaloo pertaining to Barun Sobti shedding the cloak of Arnav Singh Raizada in Star Plus’ Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon.

If readers scratch their memory cells a bit, they will recall that Tellychakkar.com was the first news and entertainment portal which broke the news of Barun throwing in his towel. The information did create a lot of buzz and lot of relevant articles kept flowing in since then.

As days passed by, Barun’s exit became more or less certain with fans all over the world resorting to campaigns to avert the impending.

But a press release sent to media houses from the channel has rest the case.

The write up had a headline, “Barun Sobti chooses films over TV”.

And here’s the release (we are publishing it as it is)

"Fans loved him as ASR (Arnav Singh Raizada) and the news of Barun Sobti quitting the show created a wave of disappointment not just with the Indian viewers but also with global audiences. In a move that might break millions of hearts, Arnav will soon bid an adieu to his viewers from the show. "I loved playing ASR and I am very thankful to Star Plus for giving me this opportunity. I also wish to thank my fans who have appreciated my character and showered me with unconditional love. However everyone wants to explore new avenues and I plan to work on a few movie projects now. In future I might comeback to TV someday. I would like to request my fans to continue loving me the same way," says an emotional Barun. However the good news for his fans in the UK is that they will get a chance to meet him at an event being hosted by Star Plus in Birmingham.

Nachiket Pantvaidya, General Manager, Star Plus, said, "ASR is hugely popular with our viewers however Barun has decided that he wants to pursue films. As for the show, there will be some very interesting twists making the story extremely interesting."

So this is it…fans. Do you folks think Barun made a wise choice to quit Iss Pyaar Ko to make a mark in the 70mm space?

We know it is an emotional moment for many of his and the show’s fans. Use the space (comment) below to share your thoughts. But before ending, we must say that every good thing comes to an end someday and the nature of life is such that it goes on…

Viraf Patel starts shooting for Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon!

Barun Sobti of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon fame, where he essayed the character of Arnav Singh Raizada in the star-crossed story on TV has bid adieu to the show. Today was his last day of shoot and the actor seemed to be enjoying every bit of it.

While Barun Sobti was shooting with Khushi’s body-double for an upcoming sequence, his co star Sanaya Irani who plays Khushi Kumai Gupta Singh Raizada in the show was shooting with the new entry Viraf Patel at another location.

Viraf Phiroz Patel was last seen in Teri Meri Love Story but looks like soon the viewers will be able to see Viraf in this most popular Starplus Show.

IPKKND to go off-air?

Nothing seems to going right for Star Plus' Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, after Barun Sobti's exit from the show here's another setback for the ardent fans of the show.

Rumors are rife that the popular show is currently under the scanner and might soon bid adieu to its fans.

Sources inform that the channel is contemplating on the decision to pull the show off-air. Iss Pyaar Ko... gained popularity all thanks to its lead pair Barun Sobti-Sanaya Irani. Now, that Barun will be out of the show soon and with an entry of new male lead Viraf, the future of the show looks uncertain.

We also hear that Sanjay Leela Bhansali's debut TV project Saraswati Chandra might replace Iss Pyaar Ko...

We tried contacting, Producer Gul Khan but she remained unavailable.

He’s gone!

He came like the wind, made us fall in love with him and his onscreen character and finally today Barun Sobti the man who made Arnav Singh Raizada an ICONIC television character finally bid goodbye to the show.

Well Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon is not going to be the same anymore now that Barun has bid adieu to the show. He breathed life into a character that was initially just on paper, making it one of the most popular, huge and magnificent characters ever, one that can never be erased from the memories of millions of viewers all over the globe.

Today on his last day of shoot our TellyTadka reporter Sheetal got a chance to meet the Actor who made ASR possible. TT brings you a small excerpt about the happenings on the sets and Barun’s answers to some casually asked question apart from the “Exclusive Video Interview”

Location: IPK Sets (Raizada Manion), Kandiwali (West)

Clad in a black 3 Piece Suit which is the basic essential ASR look, Barun Sobti was shooting (Close-up Shots) with Sanaya’s Body Double for an upcoming sequence. Completely in character Barun as ASR is trying hard to make Khushi that she would have to do things she has never done before for the Mrs. India Pageant as it was a contest requirement.

While this was the scenario infront of the Camera, of screen Barun is the total opposite of ASR. He is a full on “Mastikhor” and one of the most Jovial person on the sets. He was hanging out with everybody be it the director-Lalit Mohan or the cinematographer- Hrishikesh Gandhi, the production team, the crew members in short everybody.

When rehearsing or when in between shots Barun was seen either singing or munching on some snacks with his team members of course. Barun was really enjoying every bit of his last day of shoot, his last day on the sets of IPK and was seen having a ball. Also whenever he got time he sat down to check out the gifts, cards, Message albums etc sent to him.

On asking Barun what he felt about today being the last day of his shoot he smiled and said he does not know what it was that he actually fell, that he could not put it in words, but since it was his last day he wanted to enjoy every moment on the sets with the people who he has been associated with for the past 1 and ½ year, who is more like a family. He said he would miss his co-stars and all the masti they used to have on the sets. Barun chose not to comment anything about the new entry Viraf Patel when asked.

It’s kinda impossible to replace ASR because of the stature to which it was built, but it’s impossible to show ASR dead or vanished or kidnapped (again) which paves way for a really interesting and intriguing question as to what will be the fate of ASR but more on that later.

TellyTadka will always try and keep in touch with Barun Sobti whether or not he is a part of the show. We love him and the hard work and dedication he has put into make ASR an iconic character and will continue to do so.

Stay connected as we bring you an exclusive video interview of the phenomenal Barun Sobti soon. Keep an eye out for this in our TT Video Segment.

Khushi enters the second round of Mrs. India in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon!

With the desire of proving herself, Khushi (Sanaya Irani) had decided to try her luck in Mrs. India competition which she thought would help her in getting the right path. And as seen in the last couple of episodes of Star Plus’ Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, she has been trying her best to cope up with the new task.

The whole family is aware of Khushi taking part in the event except for Arnav (Barun Sobti), who is a little skeptical, worrying what is Khushi up to this time. Initially, Khushi was a bit reluctant about taking part in the same but with the family standing up for her support, she took the first step.

To her luck, she cleared level one of the competition successfully and is now to enter level two. However, this time things won’t be easy as she and the other participants have been asked to put up an act before the sponsors of the show.

Sources say that as the owner of AR designs, Arnav might be one of the sponsors of the big event. And if this happens then Khushi’s secret won’t be hidden from him for long.

Now it would be interesting to see who the sponsors and will Khushi be able to clear this round too like the way she did the first one!

Thank You Barun! by Rangmunch.tv

Do you guys also converse in Question and Answer format Barun asked us during one of our interactions after an interview! More often than not, Barun would leave us lost for words with his interesting interactions and enthusiasm!

Witty, Intelligent and ever smilling Barun Sobti undoubtedly added an edge to the character of Arnav Singh Raizada that no one person possibly could have...

As the actorexits from the popular daily Iss Pyaar Ko Kyaa Naam Doon, we would like to thank him for making the story real for many of his viewers...!

Most often Barun would be so overwhelmed by the response he would receive he would be left with very few words to express his gratitude!

We know, we will meet again, some other time, some other place, where he plays someone else... ! But for now, bidding a farewell with heavy heart is nevertheless not so easy!

Thank You Barun!
